Richard L. Gayle

Any competent attorney can provide answers to specific legal questions, but it takes legal skills and seasoned business acumen to become a trusted advisor in all areas of our clients’ lives. That’s the level of support I want to provide to my clients each and every day.

My Background

My career as an attorney began over 44 years ago. In that time, I’ve experienced four recessions, as well as the economic upswings in between. Those four decades do more than just date me - they serve my clients well. Over the course of my career, I’ve represented hundreds of clients on thousands of matters at various stages of their business’s lifecycle, and the knowledge and experience I’ve gained is entirely at my clients’ disposal.

My practice as a young associate, and later on when I set up my own shop, largely focused on commercial real estate transactions, with related work in estate planning and business organizations. As the world became more and more complex, so did my practice. Over time, the growth and evolution of my clients and their companies has involved me in virtually all the instances where business and law intersect. As a result, I’ve counseled companies, their officers, directors and owners on matters that are diverse in nature, but ordinary within the world of business organization. Among those I see most often for my entrepreneurial client base:

  • Complex commercial real estate sales and purchases, exchanges and ventures
  • Outside general counsel services to a wide variety of going concern business operations including manufacturing entities
  • Estate and family succession planning
  • Litigation strategy and coordination
  • Debtor’s rights and foreclosure representation
  • Tax issues related to all of the above

For my banking clients, I help protect their interests through:

  • enforcing their rights against insolvent and fraudulent debtors
  • handling commercial foreclosures and creditors’ rights in bankruptcy
  • secured lending including real estate, asset based and C & I collateralized loans
  • loan syndications and participations

The honor and privilege of my career has been serving as a trusted advisor to my clients. It’s not a role I take lightly or for granted. I appreciate the times when a client comes to me with a specific matter and then, several years later, I am still at the other end of the phone or computer, counseling them on the subsequent developments their business has seen throughout its lifecycle. And I look forward to those calls that have yet to happen.

I have gratefully served as RSP’s Chief Executive Officer since 2004, so when I have the opportunity to counsel clients on the decisions that shape their success, it comes from a place of first-hand knowledge and experience. I understand the business of law and that knowledge enables me to run the type of law firm that is not only financially successful, but is strategically positioned to support the short and long term needs of our client base for years to come. I am proud to work at a firm where I can comfortably depend upon the support of my partners and associates in order to come through for our clients.
