James M. Mainzer

It's satisfying to create innovative tax plans that benefit my clients and meet their needs.

My Background

I have over 40 years of experience handling sophisticated tax and estate planning matters for privately held businesses and wealthy individuals and families. I began my career with the Internal Revenue Service and throughout my legal practice, I’ve maintained close contacts there, helping to facilitate representation of private sector clients in tax collection defense, audit, income tax and estate tax matters.

I have substantial experience dealing with IRS agents, revenue officers and tax counsel regarding audits, tax appeals, and federal Tax Court matters.

On my clients’ behalf, I have had the opportunity to structure:

  • business and real estate transactions
  • mergers and acquisitions
  • partnerships and liquidations as tax-advantaged transactions, while focusing on wealth preservation and growth
  • estate plans for large estates in the $50M range

As an extension of this work, I also serve as a trusted advisor and general counsel for several closely-held businesses and private investors.
