Edward C. Abramson

I represent businesses and business owners. I’ve spent most of my life learning how companies, particularly in the transportation industry, operate. I stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments to provide practical guidance to my clients and help them avoid litigation whenever possible. When litigation is unavoidable, I use my knowledge of my clients’ business to help them efficiently and effectively pursue their goals.

My Background

Prior to starting in private practice, I was General Counsel for a multi-state staffing agency primarily engaged in State and municipal subcontracted placements, particularly in the managed care, government services, and transportation industries.  Since moving to private practice I regularly counsel businesses concerning statutory and regulatory compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, American with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and other federal, state and local laws governing employment and personnel decisions.  I also provide clients with general business guidance, contract drafting and review, and formulation of new or updated company policies, procedures, and employee handbooks. In addition, I provide hands-on guidance and training to my employer clients as they roll-out new policies in the workplace.

I grew up in the transportation industry. My lifelong involvement in the industry helps me understand my clients’ issues and provide effective representation. Through in-depth exposure to all aspects of the transportation industry, I am able to fully comprehend and effectively navigate complex cargo loss and damage claims, breach of contract disputes, collections, and third party workers compensation lien subrogation claims, among other industry issues.

I defend clients against employment claims before administrative agencies and in civil court proceedings, as well as in all manner of civil commercial litigation. I work diligently to resolve each claim and suit to the satisfaction of my clients. My practice includes litigating partnership disputes, breach of contract, and restrictive covenant enforcement including prosecution and defense of TRO preliminary and permanent injunction proceedings.

Outside of my law practice I continue to assist low income and undocumented residents of Cook County through volunteer work as an Associate Board member at the Old Irving Park Community Clinic, a free health clinic which provides general and specialized medical and behavior health care exclusively to uninsured patients. I also serve as a volunteer Associate board member with CARPLS (Coordinated Advice and Referrals for Legal Services), an organization operating a legal aid hotline and Cook County court help desks.
