R. Kymn Harp is a seasoned attorney and trusted advisor to investors, business owners, commercial real estate developers and commercial lenders. Since 1978, Kymn [pronounced “Kim”] has focused his practice in two complementary areas of law: (1) commercial real estate development, entitlement, acquisition and financing; and (2) business development, management, acquisitions and sales.  With his substantial experience in each area, Kymn is able to provide seamless representation in a wide array of transactions and business settings, as well as tactical oversight of litigation strategy.

Businesses represented cover numerous industries.   They encompass all aspects of commercial real estate ownership, development and financing as well as sports and entertainment, including arena development and management, and professional sports league development, ownership and management; restaurant and entertainment venue acquisition and management; health care facilities acquisition and management; and many others.

Kymn has substantial experience in developing, entitling, financing and transferring shopping centers, mixed-use developments, office buildings, warehouses and industrial properties, as well as non-conventional projects including sports and entertainment facilities, restaurants, health care facilities and other specialty developments.  Notable projects include development and financing of Sears Centre Arena, an 11,000 capacity sports and entertainment facility in Hoffman Estates , Illinois , and redevelopment of the mixed-use commercial and entertainment complex at the landmark Marina City Towers in downtown Chicago , Illinois .

Kymn is a widely published author and frequent speaker to business groups and at continuing legal education seminars.  He has a special interest in brownfield development including, sustainable revitalization of environmentally challenged properties and reuse of urban and suburban infill properties.  He believes that developers, business owners and public officials should work together to meet the needs of urban and suburban communities through creation of revitalized downtowns which offer a wide array of affordable, mid-priced and upscale housing and convenient retail shopping, dining, consumer service, health care and entertainment options as well as quality of life amenities.

Kymn is available as a speaker for industry groups and companies.

Kymn has authored many articles on a variety of topics and authored the chapter Brownfield Development – Public Money for Private Development in the ENVIRONMENAL LAW IN ILLINOIS CORPORATE AND REAL ESTATE TRANSACTIONS handbook published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (“IICLE”) in 2007 and Commercial Real Estate Financing - From the Borrower’s Perspective in the original COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE handbook (IICLE, 2004) and its 2007 supplement.  Kymn also authored a chapter entitled Commercial Condominiums for the 2007 IICLE handbook CONDOMINIUM LAW and served as the handbook’s General Editor.
